The benefits to education providers in Far North SA:

The Training and Skills Commission's Five Year Plan for Skills and Workforce Development (2009) raises a number of key points relevant to the need for better linkages between education and training sectors and an improved interface between industry and providers (school, VET and higher education). Providing opportunities for DECS staff to attain industry qualifications will ultimately benefit students and the growth of the future workforce in the Far North of South Australia.

The provision of training places through the PPPEW will help provide a locally driven approach to the education, training and development of DECS Far North region employees and subsequently address the critical need to increase VET capacity in schools. The Eyre Futures Inc. initiative to broker training programs will address staff and skill shortages by developing the capacity of staff to deliver Industry Pathway Programs, VET as part of stage II SACE programs, and the implementation of the Trade Training Centres in Schools program. The flow on impacts upon the skilling of youth for the future workforce would be extensive. Increasing the capacity to delivery VET will ultimately contribute to plans to improve engagement and retention to Year 12 by implementing Industry Pathway Programs into Secondary Education.
